TRAINING PROGRAM
Residents begin their day with an admitting conference participated by all year levels. Here, they engage in a collegial exchange of ideas, through the presentation of admitted cases, facilitated by invited consultants. After the admission conference, they proceed to their assigned posts as they actively manage their patients together with consultants. As first year residents, they assess and manage common problems in General Internal Medicine. They are assigned at the wards, explaining indications and steps of basic diagnostic procedures, interpreting and correlate to patients’ conditions. Second-year residents focus on early recognition and initiation of management at the Emergency Room. They also attend different subspecialty rotations to further expose them to subspecialty cases. In the critical care units, senior residents are expected to diagnose and initiate management on more complicated medical conditions and refer to appropriate subspecialists. In both ICU and CCU, residents have more freedom in managing patients but still with the guidance of consultants. Third-year residents are also expected to do preoperative medical evaluation as well as supervising junior residents, acting as a Senior House Officer during duty hours. Residents engage in different conferences including Harrisons Hour, Medical Grand Rounds, Case Management Audit, Mortality Conference, Staff Conference, and Subspecialty Conferences. Resident Management Cases, known in our institution as Good Samaritan patients, are resident-managed cases that provide liberty to trainees of all levels in handling different patients ranging from non- critical to critical conditions. To further improve management, all patients are under the supervision and collaboration of consultants. The OPD serves as our continuity clinic for our beloved Good Samaritan patients and even new patients who opt to be seen on an outpatient basis. To further enhance our knowledge and be holistic internists, trainees are exposed to different avenues of learning outside of the institution. Residents are given ample opportunities to attend conferences and conventions, and participate in interhospital competitions. To facilitate further training, the institution has invested in a lot of technical advancements which are at par with hospitals outside Batangas province. Cathlab is put in place for CCU patients, endoscopy unit is also provided, chemotherapy and blood transfusion units are available, and to even complement, Breast Center is also instituted. We also support environmental sustainability by practicing CLAYGO and recently, adopting PENS. The institution also took into consideration the comforts of all the residents by providing well-ventilated call rooms, clean and nutritious foods from the canteen, and spacious conference area and other amenities (gym) that will help to the general well-being of the residents. We are currently accepting first-year applicants for upcoming training year 2024. Join our nurturing family of kind, capable, and promising internists. See you!
